MUTV Takes the Combine: Day 1

The second day of the 2012 NFL Combine, Saturday Feb. 25, a perfect day to feel like a genuine journalist. Sure events like the Mizzou – KU game are pretty high up there, that’s true. But today, a day when I was maybe the youngest non-football player in Lucas Oil by say ten years or so, everything else I had done seemed so minimal in perspective. Thee NFL Combine. As a sophomore in college. I may never be back to an event of that caliber.

The most shocking of it all, was the respect I felt. Not just from Don Banks, senior Sports Illustrated writer, or Trevor who worked for Monday Night Football, but the atmosphere. I was not some college student, yet I was their equal and it was such a different environment than I have ever been used to. But enough about my personal interest in the day, let’s get to the action.

The offensive line was on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, which meant Michael Egnew was off-

limits to the media and to MUTV. He was too busy breaking records on the broad jump and getting a 4.53 on the 40. But fortunately enough for my MUTV co-host Eric Hilt and myself, Dominique Hamilton and Jacquies Smith were more than available to talk and discuss their time at the combine and in Indy.

Outside of the University of Missouri Brian Billick, Jim Harbaugh, Romeo Crennel, just to name drop a few. Oh wait, did I leave out John Clayton and Rachel Nichols (who by the way must have a fantastic makeup person on staff)? I probably forgot to mention them because I saw most of them as we “explored” the stadium. Maybe even the restricted areas… But like I mentioned before, how many more opportunities like this am I going to get right?

The NFL Combine will be an unforgettable experience and stalking Jim Harbaugh adventure. Hopefully day three, where we will see Robert G. III and Andrew Luck up close and personal on the field can measure up to be just as memorable.

Stay tuned for the video footage from this event including one-on-one interviews with Dominique Hamilton and Kansas City’s new head coach Romeo Crennel, the Chief’s newest Teddy Bear member.
